The seasons are a changing which means its time to give your make-up a little shake-up. The autumn/winter runways were full of inspiration, here are some of my favourite trends to help update your cosmetic wardrobe.
Dark lips where a popular look, the girls at Giles sported black ones while the Marc Jacobs’ girls wore a deep burgundy. Black may not be the most flattering for us mere mortals but a dark lip is always cool going into the winter months. To get the intensity and a bold shape, use a pencil to line and then fill in your lips. If you are daring to for a very dark lip then try a black or dark brown eye pencil for real depth. I like Vapour Organic Beauty’s Truffle Mesmerize Eyeliner which is a deep chocolate brown. After applying, soften it with a clean lip brush then go over with something like Ilia’s Femme Fatale. A dark colour will make lips look smaller so dab a bit of gloss on the middle of your bottom lip to help fill them back out.

The autumn/winter shows always have their fair share of dark, sultry eyes and this season was no different. It’s not about being perfect though, smudged black kohl was seen a lot. At Robert Cavalli the girls had a sexy, greasy smudged eye and the girls at Versace and Lanvin had strong kohl framing the eyes. The Organic Pharmacy’s Mineral Eye Pencil is one of my favourite pencils. Keep everything else natural, fresh skin and a slick of lip balm.

Graphic liner was also a key trend. This is about having fun and mixing up an old classic. It could be as simple as squaring of your regular tick or drawing in some bold heavy lines. Couleur Caramel’s liquid liner is great for precise application and a good intense black. Cotton buds are your best friend here – dip the end into a little oil-free moisturiser for a quick way to sharpen your lines.

Fresh, healthy skin was a key look too. Gorgeous natural blusher gave a lovely autumnal glow. Cream blushers are amazing for this look, apply on the apples of the cheeks and up along the cheekbones. Tata Harper’s Volumizing Lip and Cheek Tints are perfect for adding natural colour while giving skin a youthful boost too.

There were lots of metallics on the runway especially golds. This is such a wearable colour for so many skintones, just be careful with anything that is too yellow. Go for warmer, bronze golds for a more flattering tone. W3LL PEOPLE’s Elitist Mineral Shadow in 83 is a fantastic colour. Sweep it across the eyelids to brighten eyes, dust it lightly on cheekbones for a golden highlight.
