5 minutes with Kirsten Kjaer Weis…

November 17, 2015 by loudartford

I first met Kirsten Kjaer Weis over Skype when I interviewed her for Content at the beginning of last year and then again more recently when she gave a masterclass in the shop earlier this year. She is a very inspiring woman who has created a high performance, luxury make-up line that also happens to tick all the boxes when it comes to green beauty as well. The products are gorgeous in texture and colour, they come in amazing sleek (refillable) […]

Winter Beauty for People Tree’s EcoEdit..

November 10, 2015 by loudartford

Halloween and Guy Fawkes are done and so the countdown to Christmas begins! It’s also very autumnal and getting chilly; so as we get out those warmer wardrobes, think about your winter skin too. Here is a little piece I wrote for People Tree’s new EcoEdit on winter beauty..

cheating beauty sleep….

November 4, 2015 by loudartford

We all know the importance of getting enough sleep. Knowing it is all well and good, but actually getting it is a different matter. The rings under my eyes will confirm that there is definitely not enough in my life at the moment. I would say that there is enough to function just about, but the whole beauty sleep thing is not happening. Lack of sleep unfortunately does affect our appearance; there’s no getting away from the dull skin and […]

Live web chat with Odylique!

October 20, 2015 by loudartford

I was really chuffed when organic and fairtrade skincare brand Odylique asked if I’d like to take part in a live web chat with them talking all things organic make-up. I’m a big fan of the Odylique range and can talk about make-up until the cows come home so it was an easy question to answer. We did it last Thursday night and it was great, I really enjoyed it. It was brilliant that so many people got involved, there […]

Get the look – Volt Cafe

September 22, 2015 by loudartford

My work as a make-up artist takes me on all kinds of interesting jobs, making up different faces for all different reasons. One of my favourite types of job is shooting beauty, I love these kind of shoots because they’re all about the make-up and hair. I especially like the ones where I can showcase brilliant organic and natural beauty. I loved doing this shoot for Volt Cafe’s Organic Beauty Week special… For the skin throughout the shoot I used […]

Favourite organic kit products..

September 18, 2015 by loudartford

I’ve been ‘greening’ my kit for sometime now. Make-up has been much harder to switch than skincare, and indeed is still work in progress for my kit. We’re getting there though; I would say the last five years have seen such an improvement in organic and natural make-up. The colour choices and textures have become so much better, enabling them to compete with the more ‘conventional’ brands. This week is a celebration of organic beauty and here are some of my […]

Autumn/Winter make-up trends…

September 16, 2015 by loudartford

The seasons are a changing which means its time to give your make-up a little shake-up. The autumn/winter runways were full of inspiration, here are some of my favourite trends to help update your cosmetic wardrobe. Dark lips where a popular look, the girls at Giles sported black ones while the Marc Jacobs’ girls wore a deep burgundy. Black may not be the most flattering for us mere mortals but a dark lip is always cool going into the winter months. To […]

Organic Beauty Week #campaign4clarity

September 14, 2015 by loudartford

Each Organic September, Organic Beauty Week is getting bigger and better. This year it starts today, and as well as encouraging people to change their beauty regimes, the Soil Association have launched their Campaign For Clarity in a bid to help stop greenwashing in the beauty industry. Organic beauty is becoming more and more popular, so it makes sense that other beauty brands want a piece of the action. However that action is not always as clean and honest as it […]

New Weleda products…

August 25, 2015 by loudartford

I had the very hard task one sunny afternoon in July, of eating almond cakes while learning about the new Weleda products, set to join the already well established almond family… Born in 1921 in Switzerland, Weleda are one of the leading natural health and beauty brands sold across the globe. They are still owned by their original founders, and adhere to the strong values that were just as important back then as they are now. Weleda are certified 100% […]

Get the look – Look Magazine…

August 18, 2015 by loudartford

This is some of my latest work that came out last week in Look Magazine. Our gorgeous model Lucinda had the most amazing brows, they look bleached but they are naturally that fair. I literally just brushed through them. On her eyes I used Pacifica’s Smolder Eye Lining Gel in Anchor as a base all over the lid and along the lower lashes. Anchor is a bronzed brown, I intensified the look with a darker brown eyeshadow from Couleur Caramel. […]

Trying to clean my kit up and show green beauty is cool, and that we don’t need harsh, unsustainable or untested chemicals to look good. No hemp skirts in sight!

Some new skin products to me at the moment are @esseskincareuk serum which my skin is enjoying - this contains hyaluronic acid as well as looking after the skin’s microbiome - I was testing lots of face oils for the clean beauty awards but my skin definitely benefits from a serum too - use this under an oil ✨ I’ve been using the @greenpeopleuk new Hydra Glow Sleep Mask a lot and really like it - it’s like an overnight drink for your skin, I’ve been using it as the last step of my night time routine like a treatment night cream a few times a week💚 I’ve been using @twelvebeauty new Clementine Cleansing Balm for the last week or so and it’s so nice in this cold weather, skin feels clean but not stripped at all. Also must mention @absolution_cosmetics La Brume Systemique - this is a wonderful facial mist that freshens but also hydrates and helps other products work better ✨win-win ✨ I’m so lucky that I get the opportunity to try lovely skincare :) When I do receive new products I always try and be fair and give them a proper go, also if I like something I will use it up (lots of upside down bottles 😆) I really try not to waste products, or if it’s not right for me I’ll pass it on to someone who will use it.. #tbt throwing back a looooong way to these... shot a long time ago!! These were among a box of old tear sheets I picked up from my agency @stellacreativeartists Who doesn’t love a jewelled lip?! 💄❤️ . . . . . #lip #lipstick #lipart #redlips #makeup #beauty #mua #makeupartist #partymakeup #christmasmakeup #gemstones #redlips #yelloweyeshadow
Had a play with some glitter yesterday ✨here are a few behind the scenes... ✨playing with @beautykitchen and @ecostardust ✨the Beauty Kitchen and the Eco Star Dust Pure range (the chunkier glitter along the bottom of the eye in the picture) are completely plastic free ✨ . . . . . #glitter #ecoglitter #biodegradableglitter #beauty #partymakeup #makeup #christmasmakeup #festivemakeup #mua #greenmakeupartist #greenbeauty #ecobeauty #sustainablebeauty #consciousbeauty

Is it the weekend yet?! Beautiful @ameliabrown07 shot by @iaincrawfordpictures hair by @janprzemyk and a little #makeupbyme @stellacreativeartists 💚 For eyes I used @rmsbeauty Vintage cake liner - one of my kit staples ✨skin would have been some kind of oil massaged in to enliven it, then a balm placed onto the high points of the face to catch the light ✨I also remember spraying quite a lot of water onto @ameliabrown07 face 🙊 . . . . #beauty #blackandwhite #skin #glowyskin #dewyskin #radiantskin #makeup #smokeyeye #makeupartist #mua #greenmakeupartist #greenbeauty #organicbeauty #organicskincare
#tbt to this ✨my agency @stellacreativeartists is moving offices so I went to pick up some things and these old prints were in the mix. This was shot maybe ten years ago by @stefanzschernitz styled by @marcussoder1 with a little #makeupbyme :) Great trip down memory lane ✨ . . . . . #makeup #beauty #shoot #blackandwhite #tbthursday #eyeliner #eyebrow #eyemakeup #mua #makeupartist
I recently judged the face oil category for @certclean #cleanbeautyawards ✨(thank you for having me!) there were some lovely oils but these three came out as my favourite @biossance Squalane and Vitamin C Rose oil - my skin just loved it, it seems to react very well to squalane.. our skin has its own version called squalene but like many things our natural levels drop as we age ☹️adding a topical squalane helps with moisture levels 😀Biossance squalane comes from plant based renewable sugar cane ✨ @aromatica.official jojoba oil really helped to balance my skin after a reaction - I love jojoba as a great back to basics oil to really help you understand skin, great for cleansing too ✨ And third was @nordbeautyskincare Hydrating Face Oil - initially I thought this was a bit too thick but actually it was what my skin needed, it disappeared quite quickly into my skin and my complexion was def better in the mornings ✨ Have you tried any of them? . . . . #skin #skincare #skinroutine #skinregime #winterskin #organicbeauty #organicskincare #naturalskincare #naturalbeauty #greenbeauty #veganbeauty #plantoils #greenblogger #greenbeautyblogger
#ontheblog 5 mins with the wonderful Alex from @niniorganics ✨Alex is a ray of sunshine and an absolute wealth of knowledge when it comes to all things #greenbeauty 💚he very kindly answered some questions for the blog ✨with his thoughts on organic beauty, vegan beauty, how we can understand our skin better and much more ✨here is a little taster - link in bio if you’d like to read more 💚 What is your top skincare tip? Make sure your gut is happy! and use a poop stall when going to the toilet, your legs must be raised to get rid of everything. That’s my unconventional answer hehe! My topical top skincare tip is CLEANSE AND HYDRATE! Plus have a pomegranate a day with your breakfast, and with some excess juice massage your skin before your morning cleanse – let the fruit enzymes work their magic! Trust me it’s amazing 🙂 What is the most important step in our skincare regime? Cleansing! Always and forever, if you do not cleanse properly then you’re actively setting your skin up for failure. Cleansing is a step that should never be missed and one of which should be taken very seriously; that’s not to say that if you forget to do it your skin will fall off! If you commute in a polluted city or wear make-up then a double cleanse is a must. This allows your skin to be free from all the daily stressors and elements creating a fresh clean canvas for any treatment products you may apply after 🙂 Thanks so much Alex! I hope you enjoy them 💚 . . . . #skincare #skin #skinregime #organicbeauty #naturalbeauty #greenbeauty #veganbeauty #cleanbeauty #skinregime #organicskincare #skinhealth #greenbeautyblog #greenbeautyblogger
